Known as the “Sailing Capitol” of the United States, Annapolis is one of the most charming cities in the country. Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, the home of the United States Naval Academy and a National Historic Landmark. In fact, the entire downtown area has been designated a National Historic District, including the 18'th Century Annapolis Dock and Harbor, filled with sailing and fishing vessels and bordered by waterfront taverns, gourmet restaurants, raw bars, specialty shops and the Annapolis Market House.
Annapolis is full of history and has many sightseeing attractions. But Annapolis offers visitors more than just the experience to share the cities history. In addition to sailing, the area offers fishing, crabbing, swimming, tennis and some great golf courses.
Downtown Annapolis has sailboat racing, harbor tours, dockside Summer Garden Theater, and is home of the world's largest Fall In-Water Boat Shows.
For recreation outside of Annapolis, Sandy Point State Park offers boating, swimming, crabbing, surf fishing, or just sunbathing. Across the Bay Bridge lie quaint waterfront villages like St. Michaels, home of the famous Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. South of Annapolis, discover the historic town of St. Mary's City the early colonial capital of Maryland, with exhibits like the floating replica of a 17'th century ship which brought some of the first settlers to Maryland. And of course, Annapolis is less than an hour's drive from Harbor Place in Baltimore and the Capital of the United States, Washington, D.C.
